About the Journal

Scope

The Prism is an annual, peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journal that publishes empirical and theoretical papers covering the following disciplines: Basic Sciences and Mathematics; Engineering, Architecture and Maritime Education; Humanities, Social Sciences, Criminology, Languages and Communication; Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Natural Resources and Environment; Business and Economics; Information Technology; Teacher Education; and Industrial Technology, Tourism and Hospitality Management. Empirical papers span a variety of methodological approaches such as quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approach. All manuscripts submitted shall be externally refereed.

Peer Review Policy

The Prism Editorial Board ensures that all manuscripts submitted for publication have undergone the rigors of peer reviewing following the double-blind review process. This means that the reviewers and the authors do not know each other’s identity. The review process consists of the following steps:

1. The author submits the manuscript through the journal’s online submission system.
For unregistered authors: Go to the REGISTER page of the Prism online site (norsu.edu.ph/norsuprism/index.php) and be sure to tick these items found at the bottom of the page:

    • Send me a confirmation email including my username and password
    • Author: Able to submit items to the journal

For registered authors: Go to the LOG IN page of the Prism online site and proceed with the online submission process.

2. The Editorial Board reviews the merit of the article to ensure that such article has complied with the requirements of the manuscript before it has to be considered for outside refereeing. This requirement includes the following: (a) the article has passed the proofreading and plagiarism detection test, with a Grammarly score of 95% and similarity index of at least 5%, (b) ethical standards and protocols are complied for studies involving humans and animals, and (c) the article is an original work and has not been published in part or in full in any journal publication either locally or internationally.

3. The Editorial Board will submit the article to at least two expert reviewers who have the expertise and track record of publication in reputable journals in line with the topic to be reviewed. The referees are provided with the evaluation guide as follows: Please answer YES, NO or NEEDS WORK to the following questions and add further comments as appropriate.

    a. The article title is appropriate.
    b. The abstract accurately reflects the content.
    c. The purpose or thesis of the article is stated clearly.
    d. The purported significance of the article is explicitly stated.
    e. The article adequately ties to the relevant literature.
    f. The research study methods are sound and appropriate.
    g. The literature review and research study methods are explained clearly.
    h. The primary thesis is argued persuasively.
    i. The writing is clear, concise and interesting.
    j. All figures, tables, and photos are necessary and appropriate.
    k. The conclusions or summary are accurate and supported by the content.
    l. The article is of interest to professionals in the field.

Reviewers are to choose among the following recommendations on how to dispose the article based on the evaluation guide.

    ( ) 1. Publish, no significant alterations suggested.
    ( ) 2. Publish, but suggest changes to the article as specified in this review.
   ( ) 3. Publish, but suggestions as specified in this review must be addressed by either making changes or explaining why changes would be inappropriate.
   ( ) 4. Publish, but suggestions as specified in this review must be addressed by either making changes or explaining why changes would be inappropriate, and the altered article should be resubmitted to the reviewer.
    ( ) 5. Reject, but encourage author to try major revision and a second peer review
    ( ) 6. Reject, do not encourage a rewrite.

In cases where results of the review have both positive and negative evaluation, the Board will solicit one or more additional reviews to break the tie. In some cases, the Board may decide either to reject or publish the article upon final revision of the article.

Publication Frequency

The PRISM publishes papers annually starting 2017.
