University President Dr. Noel Marjon E. Yasi emphasized his commitment to the university's strategic planning during the Futures Strategic Planning and Foresight Training Program Phase 2

Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) President Dr. Noel Marjon E. Yasi emphasized his commitment to the university's strategic planning during the Futures Strategic Planning and Foresight Training Program Phase 2 on October 9-10, 2024, at Royal Suites Inn, Bantayan, Dumaguete City. In his opening remarks, Dr. Yasi said, "I really like to be serious with the strategic planning because this has to be owned by us. This can't be my own plans only, so that's why we're having this workshop."

The phase 2 of the strategic planning aims to synthesize the work done by various offices and establish a unified direction for the future of NORSU.

Dr. Ryan O. Tayco, the Planning and Development Office Director, stated that finalizing the Strenghts, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) and Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental (PESTLE) analysis lays the groundwork for a strategic roadmap that guides NORSU towards achieving its vision, mission, goals, and objectives for the years 2025 to 2028.

By the end of the two-day training program, Dr. Yasi intends to already have specific plans with timelines. "After this planning, we will monitor the plans we have. If there are modifications that arise after the year, then we will have our revisions," he added.

The guest speakers for the training program were Former NEDA Regional Director Dr. Efren Carreon, Former Faculty-Member of University San Carlos Mr. Rafael N. Tagalog, and Former Economic Development Specialist Engr. Margarito C. Cabadsan.

Dr. Carreon emphasized during his talk that systems, procedures, and protocols can always be examined, and that there are always some areas for improvement.

"We'll try to look at the systems and procedures on how to further improve the university, and you're the right kind of people to do that with the leadership of the new president, the vice presidents, and other officials. We should be aligned, we should share the common value. This is the purpose of this," he added.

After completing all workshops of the two-day training, all members from the Office of the University President, Office of the VP for Administration and Finance, Office of the VP for Academic Affairs, and Office of the VP for the Research, Development and Extension affixed their signatures to manifest their pledge of commitment to the university's strategic planning.
