The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) granted Negros Oriental State University the Platinum Award today during the ITSO Presidents' Summit and General Assembly held in Iloilo City. This year’s theme is “15 Years of Strengthening the Philippines’ TISs: Innovation and Creativity Toward Sustainable Technology Transfer.”

The award was conferred by IPOPHL Deputy Director General Atty. Ann Claire C. Cabochan; Director of DITTB, Director Ralph Jarvis H. Alindogan, J.D.; and Assistant Director of DITTB, Engr. Chamlette D. Garcia.

The Platinum Award, a top-tier recognition for high-performing Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSOs), is part of IPOPHL’s initiative to encourage higher education institutions to strengthen their intellectual property management.

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) is the government agency tasked with administering, registering, and enforcing intellectual property (IP) rights in the Philippines, such as patents, trademarks, and copyrights.

NORSU–ITSO met the high-performance criteria focused on patent filing and commercialization within a single year, which include the following:
• Patent filings
• Commercialization of at least one intellectual property product or technology
• IP services
• Awareness campaigns
• Workshops
• Freedom to Operate (FTO) report
• IP policy with ACAP provisions

Dr. Johann Heinrich Malongo, ITSO Director under the Research Development and Extension Office, received the award on behalf of the university.

This milestone highlights the collective effort behind Negros Oriental State University’s achievement, driven by strong leadership, active participation across campuses, effective implementation by ITSO personnel, and valuable research contributions. This recognition reinforces the university’s commitment to innovation, intellectual property protection, and impactful technology transfer, positioning it as a growing leader in technological development.
