The Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) Main Campus I transformed into a high-intensity training ground today, May 5, 2026. The university, in collaboration with regional emergency services, conducted a comprehensive Disaster Nursing Simulation.
The exercise aims to bridge the gap between classroom theory and the unpredictable reality of large-scale emergencies and to finalize and validate all operational plans and coordination mechanisms. By creating a controlled yet chaotic environment, the university ensured that communication lines between nursing students and external emergency units are seamless and effective. The simulation is structured into four critical phases, reflecting the standard life cycle of an emergency response:
The Crisis: The initial "event" that triggers the emergency response.
Tactical Containment: Immediate efforts by specialized units to manage the scene and prevent further escalation.
Rescue Operations: The core of the nursing and medical intervention, where "injured" actors are triaged, treated, and evacuated.
Recovery and Analysis: The transition to investigative procedures, featuring Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) post-incident debriefing.
The university has issued a public advisory to ensure the community is not alarmed by the realistic nature of the drill. The highlight of the event was the involvement of various organizations, including the Philippine National Police (PNP) — Explosive Detection and Ordnance K9 Unit, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Traffic Management Office (TMO), and the NORSU College of Nursing, Pharmacy, and Allied Health Sciences.
