Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) officially launched the 1st CS & IT Student Congress 2026 today, May 8, 2026, at the NORSU Library Conference Room.

Carrying the theme "Research and Innovation Drive," the event served as a platform for Computer Science and Information Technology students to showcase their technical expertise, innovative ideas, and research projects.

The congress formally opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Priscilla S. Cielo, CAS Dean, followed by an inspirational message from Dr. Libertine C. De Guzman. Vice President for Academic Affairs. In her address, Dr. De Guzman reminded students that as future professionals in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), they are expected not only to innovate but also to carefully consider the broader implications of the technologies they create — particularly their impact on privacy, accessibility, communication, employment, education, and society as a whole. The morning session featured the introduction of the Panel of Evaluators by Japhet P. Fulmaran, MSIT, Program Head, BSCS and the formal reading of guidelines by Van Roger Gutib, MSIT, Faculty, CSIT, ensuring a fair and rigorous evaluation process for all presenters.

The highlight of the congress was the technical and poster presentation sessions moderated by Ryan B. Escorial, DIT, CSIT Department Program Chair. Students presented a diverse range of research topics, from advanced software development initiatives to innovative IT- based solutions addressing real-world challenges.

The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and an awarding ceremony recognizing outstanding student researchers through the Best Paper and Best Poster awards.

As the university's first-ever CS & IT Student Congress, the event marks a significant milestone for Negros Oriental State University. By fostering a strong culture of research and innovation, the institution continues to prepare its students for the demands of the competitive technology industry while encouraging them to develop meaningful solutions that contribute positively to society.
