The Chemical Laboratory of the BS Chemistry Department at NORSU Main Campus I was visited for monitoring by the Professional Regulatory Board of Chemistry on May 20, 2024. PRC officials, Hon. Soledad S. Castañeda from DOST-PNRI and Ms. Ciove-an Angel E. Pabayos from PRC-Dumaguete, examined the laboratories, chemical storage areas, and methods of waste disposal. The Department of Chemistry's staff, led by Chair Delfin Mahinay Jr, including Fraulein C. Cabanag, Michael Angelo Circulado, and Research Director Dr. Edwin Romano, Jr, along with VPAA Dr. Rose Marie T. Pinili and VP Administration and Finance Dr. Marjon Noel Yasi, were interviewed and agreed with the findings of the visit. A year is provided to take action based on the discoveries. A chemical laboratory with the Certificate of Authority to Operate (CATO) may conduct chemical analysis or engage in the practice of chemistry in accordance with the Chemistry Law. NORSU is the sixth higher education institution in the country that was visited for the certification. After receiving certification, the Chemistry Lab will be ready to analyze samples for commercial purposes.
