Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) held its full-day Safety Preparedness Initiative: Fire & Earthquake Drill & Building Emergency Response 2024 with the theme "Empowering a Culture of Study and Preparedness: Strengthening Response, Protecting Lives" at the university's Gymnasium on October 11, 2024.
This activity is in compliance with Republic Act 9163 and is a mandatory requirement by CHED, emphasizing the importance of conducting lectures and drill sessions for all first-year students. The event was coordinated by the university's Student Affairs & Services department led by Mr. Julio E. Ventolero, in collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Mr. Ventolero stressed that the training would cover lectures on fire prevention, such as the proper use of fire extinguishers, as well as what to do during emergencies like earthquakes, safety evacuation procedures, and first aid training for medical personnel. He also mentioned that this lecture would be part of the students' midterm examination.
