The Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) Main Library celebrated the 34th Library Information Services Month and 90th National Book Week

The Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) Main Library celebrated the 34th Library Information Services Month and 90th National Book Week with an opening program on November 4 at the Library Multimedia Room.

The event focused on the theme "LibVOCACY: Unity towards Inclusive and Empowered Libraries." Dr. Colette O. Abequibel, University Librarian, emphasized that the theme is a call to action to unite the library community in advocating inclusivity and empowerment.

In his inspirational speech, Dr. Noel Marjon E. Yasi, University President, tackled three key issues in today's era: digital distraction, decreasing literacy rates, and critical thinking skills.

Following this, Ms. Elishah Mae Manalo, RL, Reader's Services Head Librarian, presented the schedule of activities for this month's celebration. Some of the fun student activities lined up include the Book Spine Poetry Contest, Advocacy Video-Making Contest, Movie Marathon, Open Mic Videoke Session, and others.

Additionally, "The Art of Writing Engaging Library Newsletter: A Workshop" will be conducted later in the month for NORSU librarians and selected librarian personnel from various campuses.

The awarding and closing program for the celebration will take place on November 29, 2024, at the same venue.
