Department of Science and Technology Secretary Dr. Renato Solidum Jr. led the launch of the first Metals and Engineering Innovation Center (MEIC) in Negros Oriental, held today, February 7, 2025, at the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) Main Campus in Dumaguete City.

NORSU, as the recipient of the DOST project and represented by University President Noel Marjon E. Yasi, expressed gratitude to DOST for choosing the university and committed to supporting the project.

The 10-million MEIC Project extends services to the regions through training for engineers and technicians, information exchange, quality control and testing, research and development, technical transfer, and business economics advisory services.

The various industrial facilities at the MEIC Center at the ground floor of the Mechatronics Building, NORSU Main Campus, include a Plasma Cutting Machine, Horizontal Bandsaw, Sheet Metal Roller, Hydraulic Shearing Machine, Electric Hoist, MIG Welding Machine, TIG Welding Machine, Hydraulic Press Brake, Computer Workstation with CAD/CAE Software, and various Electric/Hand Tools.
