The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PFIDA), in collaboration with Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) and Negros Oriental Fiber Industry Alliance (NORFIA), held an LGU-Led Training on Basic Loom Weaving on June 2-6, 2025 at the NORSU Mechatronics Building Coffee Lab - Main Campus 1.

NORFIA, an extension program of NORSU, invited trainers from the Weaving Association of Bacong to train participants from the different LGUs of Santa Cantalina, Bayawan, and Pamplona. The program hopes to revive the fiber industry of Negros Oriental, with the goal of making branding for NORSU for abaca clothing, souvenirs, and wrappings.

The looms used during the training were donated by PFIDA. NORSU is planning to add metal looms for students and staff who are interested to learn weaving.
