Negros Oriental State University was represented by three delegates at the recent 3rd International Multidisciplinary Research-based Extension Conference held at the Metro Center Hotel in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. Dr. Nora Maria Elena T. Osmeña, together with Dr. Michael P. Baldado, Jr. and Dr. Maria Dolores A. Paculanang, joined the 276 participants from 37 institutions who took part in the hybrid-format event.

Hosted by Bohol Island State University (BISU), the conference carried the theme “Rooted in Service, Rising in Impact: Reimagining Extension for Local Solutions to Global Challenges.”

Dr. Paculanang received the Best Presenter Award under the Technical Training and Skills Development strand for the NORSU team's research-based extension program titled “Mental Health and Economic Development: An Intersection Amongst Vulnerable Sectors in Dumaguete City.”

In an interview with BISU’s Senior Crafts Voice, Dr. Paculanang remarked,
“Many believe innovation is limited to high-end technology, but our project on mental health and economic development proves that even simple, community-centered efforts can create meaningful change by responding to the real needs of vulnerable groups.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Nora Osmeña addressed significant questions regarding the program’s sustainability during the discussion.
