Following a month-long observance of National Women’s Month 2026, themed “WE for Gender Equality and an Inclusive Society,” Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), through its University Gender and Development (GAD) Center headed by Dr. Aileen Rosette M. Felix, conducted its culmination program on March 25, 2026, at the NORSU Sports and Cultural Complex.
The event served as the closing highlight of the university's month-long advocacy efforts, honoring women's contributions, leadership, and resilience. Dr. Edwin F. Romano, Jr., Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, warmly welcomed the faculty and staff in attendance.
In her inspirational message, Dr. Merivic G. Catada reminded everyone to reflect on how the exceptional women of NORSU embody the university's core values—Spirituality, Honesty, Integrity, Nurturance, and Excellence—through their grit and leadership.
The main event featured a lecture titled "Menopause and Women's Well-Being: Psychological and Social Perspectives." The guest speaker was Reah G. Fabrica, a professor in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the Graduate School at Cebu Technological University, as well as a project leader for the Menopause Program.
Based on five years of research, Ms. Fabrica's lecture aimed to educate NORSU participants on the following:
1. Recognizing menopause as a significant, yet often invisible, life transition.
2. Promoting a culture of awareness, empathy, and informed dialogue within educational institutions.
3. Championing the development of supportive practices, wellness initiatives, and inclusive workplace policies.
Following the lecture, Ms. Fabrica opened a forum to address questions from the participants.
During her closing remarks, Dr. Libertine C. de Guzman, Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasized the importance of embodying the spirit of "WE." "WE as advocates, WE as educators, WE as leaders, and WE as partners in building a society where equality is lived, inclusion is practiced, and dignity is upheld for all," she stated.
The event concluded with the awarding of winners from the month-long pickleball tournament and the GAD College Corner Competition.
