The Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Office, led by Dr. Edwin F. Romano, Jr., Vice President for RDE, successfully concluded a two-day RDE Congress held on May 6-7, 2026, at the Bayawan-Sta. Catalina Campus.

Anchored on the theme "Innovating Forward: Strengthening Global Presence through RDE Excellence," the congress underscored the institution's commitment to advancing research, development, and extension as primary engines of innovation and international competitiveness.

To formally open the congress, Dr. Albert C. Albina, head of the Campus R&D Office and University Publication Unit, cordially welcomed the participants. He was followed by Dr. Liza J. Caballero, Assistant Campus Director for Academics, R&D, Extension, and SAS, who formally introduced the guest speaker.

Dr. Ivy Corazon Mangaya-ay, VP for Research, Innovation, and Extension at Bohol Island State University and Curriculum Director of the Central Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic, & Natural Resources R&D Consortium, served as the guest speaker. In her speech, she emphasized three critical lenses for success:

• Focusing on the outcomes of the RDE process.
• Building long-term collaboration between the university and the community.
• The importance of giving back to the community.

On behalf of University President Dr. Noel Marjon E. Yasi, Dr. Romano delivered an inspirational message. This was followed by a briefing on the event mechanics and the introduction of the panel of evaluators.

Participants were divided into three breakout rooms - Research, Extension, and Innovation - where they presented their work and engaged in Q&A sessions with the evaluators. Concurrently, the Creative Works Unit, headed by Prof. Ann Beverly C. Verbosidad, conducted activities featuring painting and photography.

The second day concluded with the announcement of winners across various categories.

To formally close the congress, Dr. Benjamin S. Villagonzalo, Jr., University Research Director, delivered the closing remarks, expressing gratitude to all participants for their active engagement. He also extended his appreciation to the Technical Working Group (TWG), particularly those from NORSU BSC, for a "job well done."
