The College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) at Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) organized an academic gathering centered on the theme "Research Innovations in Criminology and Criminal Justice." Held at the CEA AVR, the day-long event featured expert discussions, technical workshops, and international perspectives.

The event brought together criminal justice faculty, researchers, and students, featuring key speakers Dr. Sheila Royo Maxwell and Dr. Christopher D. Maxwell, both Professors of Criminal Justice from Michigan State University.

Dr. Jose Rene A. Cepe, Dean of CCJE, delivered the welcome address and opening remarks, setting the stage for the academic sessions. An inspirational message was then shared by Hon. Noel Marjon E. Yasi, PsyD., NORSU University President.

Keynote Speaker Dr. Sheila R. Maxwell provided a short introduction to the theme and goals of the colloquium. Meanwhile, Dr. Christopher D. Maxwell addressed contemporary methods for evaluating law enforcement strategies and performance. Following a short morning break, Dr. Christopher D. Maxwell continued with a deep dive into empirical methodologies and experimental frameworks in policing research.

The morning wrapped up with an interactive Open Forum & Q&A session, allowing participants to directly engage with the speakers.

The afternoon session shifted toward practical methodologies, writing for publication, and building international academic linkages. Dr. Sheila R. Maxwell presented on utilizing data analytics and evidence-based strategies within court systems and correctional facilities.

During a hands-on breakout session, both Dr. Sheila R. Maxwell and Dr. Christopher D. Maxwell guided participants on structuring rigorous research and navigating the publication process for indexed academic journals. Dr. Sheila R. Maxwell then discussed strategies for establishing long-term, cross-border research partnerships and cross-institutional projects.

To conclude the day’s activities, Dr. Craig Refugio, Director of the International Linkages Office, delivered a Message of Support, highlighting the value of global academic partnerships.

Certificates of Appreciation were then presented to the guest speakers and organizers by Dr. Jose Rene A. Cepe alongside University Officials, followed by a photo opportunity.
