NORSU’s Research, Development and Extension Office conducted a training on understanding author guidelines for the NORSU Prism Journal on August 5, 2026, strengthening scholarly publishing standards and academic output.

To strengthen the university’s scholarly publishing standards and encourage impactful academic output, the Office of the Research, Development and Extension organized a comprehensive training session titled "Training on Understanding Author Guidelines in the NORSU Prism Journal" today, August 5, 2026, at the CAS AVR, NORSU Main Campus I.

The full-day event brought together NORSU Research Program Heads and faculty members across all campuses to align their research output with institutional publishing standards.

The participants were warmly welcomed by Dr. Edwin F. Romano, Jr., Vice President for Research, Development and Extension. Dr. Romano highlighted the importance of elevating faculty research to meet high-level journal standards and fostering an active publishing culture across all campuses. Following the opening session, Dr. Maria Dolores A. Paculanang, Journal Manager of the Publication Unit (NORSU Prism), led the morning session: Introduction of NORSU Prism Journal Style Sheet and Presentation of Overall Author Guidelines. Dr. Paculanang guided the participants through the journal’s formatting nuances, technical expectations, submission protocols, and ethical writing standards necessary for peer review. Transitioning from theory to application, the afternoon session focused on turning a Completed Manuscript into a Publishable Format. Faculty members actively worked on refining their existing draft papers to comply with the NORSU Prism Journal style guidelines.

The participants then presented their formatted outputs for evaluation and peer feedback, demonstrating clear progress in standardizing their research manuscripts.

The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to all participating faculty members and research heads. Dr. Benjamin S. Villagonzalo, Jr., Director of Research and Development, delivered the closing remarks, commending the attendees for their dedication to scholarly writing and encouraging them to submit their finalized works to the Prism Journal.

The day ended with a group photo session, marking another key milestone in NORSU’s continuous drive to expand its research footprint and scholarly contribution to the academic community.

On the second and final day of the intensive training program on "Editorial and Publishing Training: Advancing the NORSU Prism Journal Management and Operations", which commenced with a recap of yesterday's session. The morning's agenda featured Session 4 on Open Journal System (OJS) Management, Indexing, and Visibility, delivered online by Dr. Jessica M. Avenido, Head of Journal Publication and Managing Editor of the Recoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal of the University of San Jose-Recoletos This was immediately followed by a practical workshop on Manuscript Screening Simulation and a Review Practicum using the NORSU Prism Review Form, led by Dr. Agnes C. Sequino with direct participant engagement.

Moving into the afternoon, Dr. Sequino guided participants through Session 5, focused on Strategic Action Planning specifically for the NORSU Prism Journal.

The event concluded with an open forum highlighting the official NORSU Prism Editors' Commitment, formal closing remarks by Dr. Benjamin S. Villagonzalo, Jr., Director of Research and Development, and a final photo opportunity to celebrate the successful two-day milestone.
