Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) Graduate School, headed by Dr. Chizanne S. Larena, conducted the Artificial Intelligence in Social Research Workshop-Seminar today, September 5, 2026, at the University Library Conference Hall, Main Campus.

Dr. Ryan Escorial, Program Chairperson of the Master of Information Technology; Dr. Priscilla S. Cielo, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; and Dr. Dave E. Marcial, Director of the Global Studies Center of Silliman University, tackled the topics “Artificial Intelligence Tools in Research,” “Framing Relevance in Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Research Writing,” and “Artificial Intelligence Responsibility and Ethics in Research and Education,” respectively.

Dr. Escorial emphasized the use of various AI tools through a demonstration. Dr. Cielo focused on the importance of prompt literacy, particularly in prospective research projects, emphasizing the ability to “speak and comprehend,” which begins with constructing questions and involves understanding AI-generated responses.

Dr. Marcial provided an in-depth discussion on Prompt Engineering and the 4-Step Framework: Purpose, Process, Prompt Quality, and Post-Check in using AI. He also discussed the types of ethical and non-ethical prompts and the use of AI in research and innovation. He emphasized that the seminar would “help the University look at AI not as a disruptor but as a tool that can help improve productivity, learning, and research. AI can be a research assistant, not the researcher.”

The seminar was conducted in adherence to CHED policies and AACUP evaluation standards on Faculty Development Support through seminars and workshops.

The face-to-face and virtual attendees included program chairpersons, assistant chairpersons, and some faculty members of the Graduate School. Other University Officials present were Campus Director & Department Chairperson Research & Development of the Graduate School Dr.Ryan Tayco and Dr.Benjamin Villagonzalo, Jr., Director for Research & Development.
